Customer Feedback - Fours industriels BMI and Pyrocontrole, 70 years working together in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Fours industriels BMI and Pyrocontrole have been working hand in hand for nearly 70 years. We look at a historic collaboration in Rhône-Alpes with Cyril Piras, head of R&D.
Fours industriels BMI and Pyrocontrole have been working hand in hand for nearly 70 years. We look at a historic collaboration in Rhône-Alpes with Cyril Piras, head of R&D.
- What is Fours industriels BMI's core sector?
Ever since it was founded, Fours industriels BMI has designed and manufactured industrial furnaces for heat treatments. In the 1980s, we specialized in manufacturing industrial vacuum furnaces.
- How long have you been customers of Pyrocontrole?
The answer's simple! Ever since our foundation in the 1940s! I find it amazing to realize that we have been working together for so long and that we have jointly faced so many technological developments!
- What products do you use?
We use two types of products. The first is the Thyritop 30 power controller, which has the advantage of handling resistive and inductive loads, an operating range from 110VAC to 500VAC and from 16 A to 350 A. We particularly appreciate the practicality of the fuses which can be changed very quickly and the number of standard functions is just what we're looking for!
The second is also a Thyritop, but the 600! We are really proud at BMI because we worked on its development with Pyrocontrole. We really needed a specific controller for our furnaces, which are involved in heat treatment; particularly for the aerospace and pharmaceutical industries. Briefly, this type of furnace heats the molecular structure to make the material harder, so we need ultra-accurate, reliable controllers. In addition, with the PyroALM we can smooth the network power and thus optimize energy consumption!
-
- What are Pyrocontrole's advantages?
As a partner for us, Pyrocontrole is like a Swiss Army knife! It's hard to know where to start….
During our 70 years working together, we have been able to establish a genuine trust-based relationship, which is a rare thing today. Our various exchanges are simple, the products are technically sophisticated, the technical support is quick to respond and the quality-price ratio is advantageous. What more could we ask for?
- What projects are being developed with Pyrocontrole for the future?
The main issue currently facing our company is decarbonization. Ever since we started out, we have been proactive to optimize our furnace production so that we are always "up to date" and meet our customers' requirements even more closely. So, in 2022, we are looking for solutions to combine cost savings and energy savings. What's magic is that both of these concepts point to the same thing: decarbonization.
- What is your opinion of your business and technical relationship with Pyrocontrole.
To sum up, they listen, they respond quickly and deliver high performance!
Personally, I work with Bruno Burioni, Pyrocontrole's Key Accounts Manager. Over the last three years, we have built up a genuine trust-based relationship. We also appreciate the simple, effective technical documentation which helps us avoid time-wasting.
Measurement Days on October 6th in Lyon, France: Success of the conference and workshops led by Manumesure, the expert in pH-metry!

Just like last year, Manumesure's conference and workshops in the context of the Measurement Days on October 6th in Lyon (France), in partnership with the "Mesures Solutions Expo" trade show, were a great success!
Manumesure's goal was to help people "discover" pH-metry and propose "technical" workshops.
The debates were rich and constructive with a large number of participants from industry, as well as laboratory staff and even COFRAC auditors (or independent training instructors): thanks to them all for taking part!
- Manumesure's conference was devoted to pH measuring instruments and how to use them:
Fundamentals of pH measurement, use of a pH-meter, use of standard reference solutions and good measurement practices (use of certified reference materials - CRM).
-The technical workshops led by Manumesure were able to examine in depth a practical case of pH-meter calibration with CRM solutions (reference materials produced by Manumesure).
It should be noted that Manumesure is the only company in France manufacturing COFRAC CRM pH buffer solutions.
Thanks to our 2 speakers:
Charlotte Messmer (Chauvin Arnoux Electrochemistry Product Manager), particularly for her presentation on "chemical techniques and theory of pH-metry".
Tarik Kenzari (head of the Manumesure agency in Lyon, France) for his expertise concerning "metrology and measurement bases".
And, to round off, a big thank you to all the other participants too!
Expert Focus – Power controller
For nearly 130 years, Pyrocontrole, a Chauvin Arnoux Group company specialized in temperature measurement and control has been a major player in the design and manufacture of temperature sensors and control solutions ideal for the energy issues currently facing society
Today, "Expert Focus" meets Alexandre Soukphouangkham, Control Market Manager, to talk about Pyrocontrole's new range of controllers and the energy savings which it can achieve.
- Alexandre, what is a power controller for?
A power controller can be used to control the load, which means it controls the current intensity and the voltage according to the signal which it receives from the operator.
The purpose of this control is to prevent overloads which may affect the performance and life span of the equipment. Controllers are also used to optimize the efficiency of the modules, thus saving energy and facilitating decarbonation of your processes.
- What are the advantages offered by our products?
In five words: Innovation, adaptability, modernity and energy saving.
At Pyrocontrole, we propose a broad range of control products. The Thyritop and Statop models can be adapted to your specific needs whatever the field of application!
The advantage at Pyrocontrole is that we guarantee a very long life span (excluding incidents) for our range. In addition, it is an ideal replacement for electromechanical contactors. The logical and analog inputs/outputs on our instruments are also totally configurable.
In the Thyritop range of power controllers, each model has specific features. The Thyritop 101 is designed for low temperatures and offers optimum operation up to 40°C. The Thyritop 201 provides feedback in the event of overheating or total load break. The Thyritop 500 is a product which can be used alongside out brand new PyroALM module to optimize consumption for greater energy savings. The Thyritop 600, meanwhile, includes 4 temperature sensors: 1 on the thyristor, 1 on the PCB, 1 on the input connection and the fourth on the product's output.
Lastly, the Thyritop 700 range, with 4 control loops and 4 control switches, fits perfectly in cabinets and confined spaces.
For temperature control, our Statop range has already proved its worth on the market and is integrated in the thermal loops of industrial processes.
Another advantage is that we have developed unique, specific software for our products to facilitate configuration and management of the data in your processes: Pyrotools.
- The customer relationship is another advantage at Pyrocontrole. What sort of feedback on the products do you receive from customers ?
For us, the customer relationship is the foundation for everything! Since arriving at Pyrocontrole, I have been won over by the company's philosophy regarding company/customer relations.
Availability, a serious approach, listening to customers, seeking solutions and making proposals are mainly what our customers report to us.
I'm proud to work for a company capable of establishing such trust-based relations with our consumers over the long term.
- Does the Thyritop range also contribute to energy savings ?
Yes, of course! The whole range contributes, but there is one model in particular which outperforms the rest: the Thyritop 600 with its PyroALM energy management module.
The Thyritop 600 enables you to group to 2 to 64 control switches and initially allows you to limit the maximum power threshold. Because you cannot exceed your power rating, you avoid penalties from your energy supplier.
In a second phase, our product helps to distribute the powers on the different production lines to optimize energy consumption.
- What's in the news for control at Pyrocontrole ?
We always have news because we're constantly seeking to improve our products and adapt to our customers' and the market's demands.
We launched the new Thyritop 700 range in April and the Thyritop 100 range in May.
- Decarbonization is a crucial subject at the moment. What solutions does Pyrocontrole propose?
We are in the midst of a major transition but Pyrocontrole is once again there to accompany you and keep its promises.
We propose Thyritop power controller ranges and Statop temperature controller ranges which are ideal for the hydrogen value chain, the most promising sector for accompanying the changes in our energy requirements.
- Which project most caught your eye among our customers ?
It's hard to say because each customer is unique and specific but United Petfood surprised me.
The company, specialized in the production of quality dry and wet pet foods, makes the astonishing amount of 120,000 tonnes of croquettes, biscuits and tinned food. That means 12 million dogs and cats who are, to certain extent, happy thanks to us!

Let's support our clients energy transition: nearly 130 years of being the best!!
Facing increasing economic, environmental and geopolitical pressures, industrial companies have no choice but to commit to eco-responsibility and make it widely known, surfing on the wave of energy transition news and climate orthodoxy.
Covering all the transformations of the energy generation, distribution and consumption system with the aim of making it more ecologically sound, the energy transition is not at all a new subject inside the Chauvin Arnoux Group. Fossil fuels running out?
Pyrocontrole, Chauvin Arnoux Group, specialized in temperature measurement and regulation in harsh environment, has been working for near than 50 years in the nuclear sector and is involved in a large number of ongoing EPR projects while developing solutions for the hydrogen value chain, another energy source favouring decarbonization.
Need to reduce emissions of CO2 and other greenhouse gases which are harmful for our planet?
Via its subsidiary Manumesure, Chauvin Arnoux proposes services to measure pollutants output from the chimneys or in the areas around industrial sites, in accordance with the regulatory requirements and Cofrac certifications.
The portable instruments designed and developed by Chauvin Arnoux are based around the current issues of identifying energy losses, whether in the building sector or industrial processes. Thus, Chauvin Arnoux's Qualistar range of power quality analysers and PEL loggers have been included in the standard energy audits plans for some years now.
Similarly, when coupled with a Ulys MCM meter from Chauvin Arnoux Energy, the Gridwatch solution can be installed in MV/LV transformer stations to trace and secure the energy flows while optimizing maintenance costs on the electrical network.
Who said that "shoemakers children are always the worst shod"?
PyroALM: control in PCBs!
Pyrocontrole is constantly searching for solutions to meet its customers' needs. As an eco-responsible company seeking to respect and contribute to decarbonization of the planet, Pyrocontrole is launching a new product on the market: the PyroALM.
Pyrocontrole, a member of the Chauvin Arnoux Group, is constantly searching for solutions to meet its customers' needs. As an eco-responsible company seeking to respect and contribute to decarbonization of the planet, Pyrocontrole is launching a new product on the market: the PyroALM.
When coupled with our Thyritop 600 power controller, the new PyroALM can be used to smooth the network power and thus optimized energy consumption. In the event of installations comprising several Thyritop 600 controllers (up to 64 on the same electrical network), the PyroALM automatically adjusts the trigger time for each of them. You electricity consumption is therefore stable and below the power limit defined by your electricity supplier.
The PyroALM is equipped with an "anti-flicker" system which significantly reduces the current peaks due to simultaneous triggering of the power controllers configured in BURST firing mode, thus reducing your electricity consumption. It is easy to use and is connected via a simple RJ45 cable.
Monitoring functions are available to flag any power faults and shedding functions to avoid exceeding the maximum network power.
A genuine advantage for your electricity consumption, PyroALM is the new energy saver you've been waiting for!

The best way to make energy savings? "Measure up"!
The French government has announced that it is expecting a 10% reduction in energy consumption by 2024 and setting an ambitious target of a 40% reduction for companies by 2050 in the context of France's energy transition. The race to measure savings in order to offset the increase in energy costs has begun and companies, like private individuals, are getting ready for high winter energy bills which seem likely to overwhelm their finances.
In this situation marked by an energy crisis, nuclear power is making a comeback and EPR projects are being restarted. New alternative energy sources, such as hydrogen, geothermal power, wind power and photovoltaïc solar power are focusing the attention of industrial companies and private customers, offering new economic, commercial and societal opportunities. The need to control energy costs seems to have acted as a trigger, raising awareness of the necessity of energy transition for our society and our world, like the digital transition boosted by the Covid lockdowns. Sustainable development is once again at the core of political debate and international conferences, backed by a greater determination to respect our planet with its limited resources.
In this context, the Chauvin Arnoux Group has the advantage of developing its solutions and products in its own R&D departments and manufacturing its energy control instruments on its own production sites. It also benefits from the complementarity of its various types of expertise in this area; our companies Chauvin Arnoux, Pyrocontrole, Chauvin Arnoux Energy, and Manumesure, each contribute their skills in their sector to support this transition in the medium term while favouring short-term savings.
With significant involvement in the Nuclear sector dating back many years, Pyrocontrole and Chauvin Arnoux Energy are thus committed to supplying the major EPR projects. The K1/K2/K3-qualified temperature sensors for controlling overheating of the reactors and the K3-qualified relays and switchboards contribute to the success of the Nuclear sector, helping to ensure that the solutions in this sensitive environment remain safe. Similarly, Manumesure, the Group's metrology company, regularly works in these harsh environments, providing calibration services designed to prevent any risk of dysfunction and maintain the safety of the industrial sites over the long term.
In another sector, Chauvin Arnoux's power quality analysers (Qualistar + CA 8345) and energy loggers (PEL) and CA Energy's meters (Ulys MCM) help companies, supermarkets and industrial firms to reduce their energy bills. The Ulys MCM and TCCV equip many supermarket control boxes and also monitor electricity, gas, temperature and lighting consumption with the aim of making economic adjustments. This is also the role of the "super-heroes against energy losses" in the Thyritop Series from Pyrocontrôle and the ALM module contributing to decarbonization by smoothing the power defined by the electricity supplier and spreading the loads better in order to optimize energy consumption. The complete range of low-voltage current transformers from Chauvin Arnoux Energy, available for tariff metering in classes 0.5 and 0.2s, lets you improve the accuracy class of the measurement line, thus enabling fair, accurate billing.
Similarly, following the principle that "you only pay what you consume", electric vehicle recharging stations are springing up all over the country. These new installations have enabled Chauvin Arnoux to propose the CA 6651 test adapter for EV recharging stations which simulates the use of a vehicle to ensure that the charging station is operating correctly with the right pricing.
That's why our Chauvin Arnoux Group motto "Measure up!" is even more relevant than ever.
