A light meter at the South Pole!
The LM76 light meter from the Multimetrix® brand is quite a traveller. It recently made it to Antarctica with the ACROSS ANTARCTICA 2014 expedition.

The LM76 light meter from the Multimetrix® brand is quite a traveller. It recently made it to Antarctica with the ACROSS ANTARCTICA 2014. With a mainly educational focus, this expedition's aim was to allow teachers to put into practice the scientific methods which they teach their students. The expedition provided data for analysis linked to the secondary-school Physics & Chemistry curriculum: cold, climate, health... and lighting conditions!
In this very low-temperature environment, the LM76 from Multimetrix® proved its worth. It was used to perform exceptional lighting measurements in this extremely white environment (the Antarctic is known as the white continent).
Still in working order when they brought it back, the LM76 light meter survived this testing adventure in the extreme cold.
And for its next expedition, somewhere close to the Equator, perhaps?

Electrical measurements & rail networks
MX070, ISOCA, TERCA3S, CA5003S, D36N, CA6415R … all these portable electrical measuring instruments are certified by SNCF's Signals Engineering Department.

The French Signalling Works Directive requires the operating checks on the installations to be carried out with certified instruments bearing markings which comply with the applicable standards.
Chauvin Arnoux® proposes certified instruments to fulfil this requirement: the MX070 and ISOCA for measuring the insulation of cables and installations, the CA5003S multimeter for track circuits, the TERCA3S field megohmmeter and the C.A 6415R clamp for measuring earth loops.

EducEco Challenge
EducEco Challenge: a racetrack in the centre of town with 53 teams of science students competing over three days from 8th to 10th May.
For the last three years, the Chauvin Arnoux Group has been a partner and sponsor of the EducEco Challenge, in which the goal is to travel the longest distance using the least energy possible. Although this was the seventh edition, with the centre of Colomiers transformed into a racetrack for the 53 teams and the 800 participants, as well as 3,000 spectators, from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th May, it was also certainly the last time. This noble venture was originally launched by Jean-Paul Chassaing, ex-School Inspector in Science and Electrical Engineering in the Paris region and formerly an active member of the "Club du Mesurage", a partnership between the worlds of business and education organized by Chauvin Arnoux.
At the EducEco Challenge, the competition involved two types of vehicles produced by students (from middle schools through high schools to technical colleges and universities): prototypes and green urban vehicles. The former usually benefit from aerodynamic design, whereas the latter are much closer to the cars of the future. But they all have the same goal: to cover the longest distance with the least possible energy, whether the motors involved are petrol-driven, thermal, electrical, solar or hybrid.
This provides a fun way of promoting the new types of energy while involving science students in a friendly competition which the Chauvin Arnoux Group is always proud to be associated with. A specialist in portable electrical instrumentation since 1893, Chauvin Arnoux sponsors events and runs the Club du Mesurage, which groups school inspectors and publishes its educational magazine "Les Cahiers de l’instrumentation", in order to foster interchange between students, the company and industrial projects. The aim is to stay close to the future market requirements in terms of products and energy solutions, while promoting the dynamic approach and creativity of tomorrow's young engineers.
This event has already seen the establishment of two world records.
"In 2013: the world record for hydrogen-powered green urban vehicles wwas beaten by students from the Lycée La Joliverie and the Ecole Polytechnique in Nantes. Their vehicle, named "Cityjoule", demonstrated that it was capable of travelling 1,430 km on a single litre of petrol."
In 2014: students from the same schools travelled 18.5 km with just 0.79 g of hydrogen, the equivalent of 6,329 km on one litre of SP 95 petrol. Quite an exploit!"
With projects like this, future energy-saving seems to be on the right track, like the instruments designed and manufactured by the Chauvin Arnoux Group under the Chauvin Arnoux®, Metrix®, Enerdis® and Pyrocontrole® brands.

New: Communication Inside the Meter !
Whatever the communication protocol, whether Modbus RS485, M-bus or Ethernet, the meters can be incorporated into existing installations. Metering, submetering, energy rebilling: the meters in the MEMO and ULYS ranges are a perfect fit for an energy performance project.
Comprehensive solution
Metering, submetering, energy rebilling: the meters in the MEMO and ULYS ranges are a perfect fit for an energy performance project.
- On single and three-phase networks
- Whatever the sizing of the electrical feeder: direct 32, 45, 65 or 80 A and on CT
- From the simple need to display the active energy consumption to a more comprehensive solution for retrieving the data concerning the activity on the electrical feeder of an installation
Multi-protocol communication
The whole range of meters offers total communication. Whatever the communication protocol, whether Modbus RS485, M-bus or Ethernet, the meters can be incorporated into existing installations. This means interoperability is guaranteed.
Three-phase ULYS Ethernet meters and their unique functions
ULYS meters with integrated Ethernet communication offer functions which are unique on the market, in a compact 4-DIN-module format.
An ideal solution for metering and monitoring identified feeders, the ULYS Ethernet meters record all the activity on an electrical feeder, covering a selection of up to 80 or more instantaneous electrical quantities and indices. The web pages integrated in the product make it simple to set the parameters for the recordings.
The ULYS Ethernet meter transmits, autonomously and independently, all the recordings made by the product to a remote FTP server. This means use is no longer "limited" by the size of the product's memory because all the consumption data and trend curves are regularly stored online.
The standardized .csv format of the recordings makes them easy for any user to process in a simple spreadsheet.
The data grouped and stored in this way are made available for energy management software which can process and format these data.

1000 V CAT IV IP65 Voltage Absence Testers
For all indoor and outdoor Low Voltage applications

The C.A 771 and C.A 773 fulfil the requirements of the new NF C 18-510 standard in France and the EN 50110-1 European standard. The IP65 protection rating of the C.A 771 and C.A 773 is higher than recommended by the standard, so they can be used indoors and outdoors down to -15°C (type N), in the case of the C.A 773, and down to -30 °C (type S) in the case of the C.A 771. This means that the C.A 771 can be used in extreme temperatures.
